Larry A. Van RinsumMargaret “Peggy” Draper Hash, 93, died on May 21, 2013. She was born Dec. 7, 1919, in Pylesville, Md., a sibling of five to Bessie Alma Draper and Robert Julene Draper. She attended grade school in Delta, Pa., and graduated from Slate Ridge High School in 1937. After high school she attended Strayer, Bryant and Stratton Business College in Baltimore. She was employed at the Delta National Bank and then worked in personnel at the Edgewood Arsenal in Edgewood, Md. While there, she met her husband, Charles L. Hash, an Air Force veteran attending undergraduate school at Johns Hopkins University. They were married in Bel Air, Md., in 1946. It was a westward journey as Charles and Peggy drove their 1936 Ford Phaeton to Missoula where Charles attended law school. While in Missoula, Peggy worked for the U.S. Forest Service. From there, they moved to San Francisco where Charles was a law clerk. In 1952, they returned to Montana and settled in Kalispell. As Charles was starting his law practice, Peggy worked for the Montana State Forest Department. Home and family were important to Peggy, and so it was in Kalispell that she placed her roots to start a family with Charles. Her love and devotion as a wife and mother were expressed in many ways throughout the rest of her life. Peggy and Charles enjoyed their many friends in the Flathead community. Her close friends were important to her. Whether hosting a Democratic gathering, playing bridge, fishing and camping or chasing the "elusive morel mushroom," Peggy embraced a Montana lifestyle. Motherhood was Peggy’s true passion. Her devotion and commitment to her children were expressed throughout her life. Volunteering for school and church activities, baking for ski weekends at Big Mountain, and camping with family and friends at Spotted Bear and Seeley Lake were some of her most memorable times. In summers she often took her children to her childhood home back east to visit her family and relish in the joy of eating Maryland crabs. During recent years disabilities prevented her from the travel and family vacations that she once enjoyed. She was still able to watch her grandchildren, Nicholas and Meagan, play sports and perform in school activities. Staying at home, she received assistance from many special caregivers and another family was formed. Her heart was in her home and with her family. She is survived by her son, Mark and his wife, Tere, and their children, Meagan, Nicholas and his wife, Nicole, and great-granddaughter Emery; daughter, Sarah “Sally” and husband, Dan Savage; brothers, Robert Draper and Ralph Draper; and sister, Hazel Thompson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles L. Hash; and her sister, Edith McLaughlin. Friends of the family wishing to make gifts in her memory may consider the Hockaday Museum of Art or the Museum at Central School, both in Kalispell. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 30, at Epworth United Methodist Church in Kalispell. A reception will immediately follow at the church.

Charles "Pete" CrowA. Wayne Laisy passed away at Kalispell Regional Hospital surrounded by his family on Tuesday, July 2nd of natural causes. He celebrated his 97th birthday on Jan. 8th. He was born to Edward and Mae Laisy on the Laisy Family Homestead (ranch), in the Slim Buttes of South Dakota, near Buffalo in 1916. His parents were also postmasters for the area which the U.S. Post office named Gill, S.D. He was the youngest of three siblings and was always in trouble finding interest in everything. His mother taught him to play the piano at a very young age which lead him to a life filled with music. After graduating from Buffalo High School, he moved to Long Beach, Calf. to study civil engineering. While there, he built himself a Model T Roadster from scrap parts modifying the engine to have two transmissions; a two speed rear end with 16 forward gears and two in reverse. The roadster would cruise at 80 mph all day across the desert to visit home. During his studies, his classes were in tents at the junior college and he helped build the U.S.C campus. After the death of his father, he returned to manage the family ranch. He met and married Lavone Anderson in 1941. The ranch sold and he moved his family to Buffalo, S. Dakota and then on to Glendive, Montana in 1946. He became the shop Foreman for R.L. Robins International Harvester Co. and later owned his own truck Stop and Repair Service. While in Glendive he completely restored several antique automobiles including a 1907 International. He also designed and built original farm machinery, often manufacturing parts for them and constructed the first new home for his family. Being famously mischievous at times, Wayne loved a good laugh. Some Glendive residence might remember the Mokoshika Monster that would come down out of the Badlands in the winter and leave tracks around peoples homes. In 1963 the family moved to Missoula and later settled in Florence, where Wayne built the second family home. He worked as a mechanic for M&S Ready Mix and later retired as a mechanic from the Mt. Dept. of Transportation. After his marriage ended, he moved to the Flathead Valley, eventually building a third home near Woods Bay and growing Flathead cherries. He became involved with the Big Fork Senior Center and volunteered to deliver Meals on Wheels to many of his younger contemporaries. He delivered for many years; in fact he was still delivering in May of this year. Wayne moved to Kalispell a few years ago but continued to be involved with the Big Fork Senior Center and the many friends he loved in the area. Before his passing he enjoyed the company and companionship of Willetta (Willy) Boehm. Eating breakfast or dinner, together with a piece of cherry pie at Sykes Restaurant, became a regular thing to do. Wayne loved to play the piano, loved to play cards and loved his many friends. to send condolences to the family please go to www.buffalohillfh.com. Lukas Gilbert LeighLukas Gilbert Leigh, 18, died Tuesday, July 2, 2013. On June 3, 1995, we were blessed with a beautiful baby boy, Lukas Gilbert Leigh. Born to Gilbert Leigh and Sara Noziska, Lukas started life out very active, learning to walk by the time he was 10 months old. He loved all sports. He started out wrestling his little brother Dalton, and as we all know, Lukas never let Dalton lose a single match. He wrestled for Evergreen and Kalispell wrestling clubs over a period of nine years, winning titles in the Little Guy tournament, folkstyle at state in Great Falls, and freestyle and Greco-Roman in Butte. He played basketball, soccer and football. Lukas could never get enough time on Big Mountain, and loved snowboarding and skiing, but most of all he loved baseball. Baseball was the love of his life and he looked forward to someday bringing it to a higher level. He made lots of friends playing baseball. In January of this year he went to Phoenix and played in a prospect tournament there that was so exciting for him. He loved swimming and camping, and started out life being fearless. He jumped off of the old steel bridge with his sister Leslie and brother Joseph at age 7, then he climbed up and did it again. He loved to hike to his favorite spot in Montana, Leigh Lake, discovered by John Leigh, his great-great-grandfather. The first time he visited Leigh Lake he was the only one that would jump into that glacier-fed lake, after stripping down to his birthday suit. He loved babies, and when his nephew Payden was born he was the only one of Payden’s uncles that wasn't scared to hold him. Every time he saw Payden, he said with a big smile on his face, “Hey, buddy" and let Payden crawl all over him. He loved his baby sister Dakota, and was so happy when he bought her very first pair of shoes. Lukas loved listening to music and had a reason for each song. There were many songs that reminded him of his dad, especially one he just downloaded, “A Country Boy Can Survive.” He had so much love for everyone and he always kept a picture of his mom in his wallet. Lukas’ family was so important to him that he would do anything for any of them. Over the last year and a half, he spent the majority of his time with his sweetheart and the love of his life, Jayla Grilley. Lukas was always eager to go duck hunting with his grandpa, Mike. One time, at age 17, he was supposed to go hunting with Mike but instead went with friends and shot his first elk. Lukas was a go-getter, and if he wanted to do something, he made sure that he found a way to get it done. He was always wanting to get on a motorcycle or on four-wheelers. He had no fear and would go all out with anything he did. He succeeded and was above average in everything he wanted to do. He loved every time his great-grandparents, Ernie and Wanita, went to his baseball game. Lukas was about accomplishment, hope, possibility and aspiration; not so much in all things but with the talents he was born with, to give him a good future. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Gordon Leigh. Lukas is survived by his father, Gilbert Leigh; mother, Sarah Noziska; brothers, Dalton Leigh and Joseph Leigh; sisters, Leslie Leigh, Dakota Leigh and Crystal Chapman; aunts, Carol Leigh and Lisa Miller; cousin, Joshua Leigh; grandparents, Dorene Leigh, Mike Noziska and Shelly Drake; great-grandparents, Ernie and Wanita Drake; and many more extended family. A celebration of life will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, July 8, at Lakers Legion Field in Kalispell. Lukas’ ashes will be spread at a later date at Leigh Lake.

Vicki Jean (Orndorff) LamoreauxVicki Jean (Orndorff) Lamoreaux, 61, of Echo Lake, “went to heaven” July 7, 2013, surrounded by her loving family and friends. Vicki was born Sept. 7, 1951, in Billings to LaMar and Cora Orndorff She met Ron Lamoreaux in high school and they were married in Columbia Falls, Sept. 19, 1970. She received an associate’s degree at Flathead Valley Community College and a bachelor's degree in elementary education at Montana State University in 1989, and taught special education at Head Start, Discovery Developmental Center and Cayuse Prairie School. She would go south for the better part of the winter, until her latest granddaughter was born. She then could not leave for more than four or five weeks at a time. She also made multiple trips to Canada and Mexico, and went on a few cruises to the Caribbean and the Pacific Ocean. Her favorite experience was swimming with the dolphins. She enjoyed traveling and camping (as long as it wasn't roughing it too much) in her fifth wheel. Mostly she enjoyed time spend with family and friends, especially at the lake.
